Left; Left; Left, Right, Left…for the Babies
Posted: May 16, 2017
Saturday, May 13; the Roanoke employees and their families participated in March for Babies. Our team raised over $8,600 which is as of today #1!!!!! Woohoo! And, Charlie Webb ($3900+) and Dennie Denison ($2900+) are #1 and #2 for amounts raised by individuals. We got a little exercise and enjoyed the companionship of our co-workers outside the office while doing something vital for our community.
As our emcee announced, the route was interesting. We weaved through parts of downtown, went past The Hotel Roanoke and jumped on a portion of the Greenway. Personally, I had not seen Roanoke’s Martin Luther King memorial and the route took us over the bridge and right past it. Members of my family, even took a break from manning the water stations to give blood. Then, we mixed and mingled with the Harry Potter crowd for lunch. All in all, a fun day was had by everyone.
When we walked with friends, family and coworkers, we took part in a fun and healthy day that benefited so many moms and babies in our community. It‘s easy to get caught up in the inspiration of it all and forget that we are fighting birth defects and premature birth.
The money raised by this event is a lifeline for babies in the NICU, connecting them with the critical treatments and care they need. This community helps moms at every stage, from preconception to annual family walk day. The research funded helps every mom and every baby for generations to come.
Every step we took brought us closer to the next medical breakthrough at the five March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers. Just last year, March of Dimes raised $20 million to fund the best researchers and scientists looking for solutions to the biggest problems that threaten moms and babies.
All babies, whether they‘re born early or right on time, benefit from advances in prenatal and postpartum care made possible by the March of Dimes. Our fundraising directly supports that mission. We‘re so proud to say that we‘re all March of Dimes babies — you, me, our children and future generations of kids.
March for Babies day here in Roanoke is over, but it’s not too late to donate to improve the health of babies. Our goal remains $10,000 and we are still a little short. March of Dimes is still taking donations until December 31.
